great listening, great topic. still can’t give Eddie a pass for being so dangerously irresponsible. I can understand a jerk like John Stossel getting roughed up by David Schultz, the guy was trying to ridicule and expose the business to millions on a prime time network show. Anyone back then, (69-early 70s) who wandered into the snake-pit had no such forum, except for mouthing off at the local bar. Eddie, if he was such a badass, should have used his Hardest Punch in Wrestling to take care of the matter at a neutral site, or better yet ignore the guy.CWF was doing the same great business despite some annoying local hobo saying it’s fixed or fake…a lot of folks held that opinion..To me, I equate it to a heckler at a Bears football game who runs his mouth to George Halas 3 hours going to a try-out camp and instead of getting a legit chance, gets the tar beat out of him by Dick Butkis, Ray Nitschke, Sam Huff and Jack Lahmbert. Bush-league…but fascinating to listen to. thanks Ron.
Yes, Rick, the Snake Pit indeed was the dark underbelly of Graham’s promotion.
no doubt that Larry, I would be interested in the off-camera disagreement between Eddie and Larry (Great Malenko) Simon that caused such a great rift. I hope Ron touches on that in a future show.
Hi Ron I have a two part question how did you feel when Eddy Mansfield expose the business in 1984.Also too who the number fan in Mobile,Birmingham.Montgomery ,and Dothan during southeastern and continental existence any good stories about number 1 fans inside and outside the matches.Thank You
You can see someone telling Roop something after the guy was trying to leave and Roop ran after him in the dark and you can hear the guy screaming. So, no Roop didn’t just let him go. Of course, he was following orders.
